Moments Lab’s North American team recently had reason to get suited up and go to Gotham Hall in New York for the 2024 Giants of Broadcasting & Electronic Arts Awards, where our client, leading U.S. media company Hearst, was recognized for their extensive on-going program to digitize and preserve their news archives.

‍The awards, created by the Library of American Broadcasting Foundation (LABF), honor professionals and organizations that exemplify outstanding excellence in four creative disciplines: broadcasting, electronic arts, preservation, and innovation.

Our collaboration with Hearst embodies the spirit of innovation. Together with Google and Bitcentral, we’ve embarked on a groundbreaking project to digitize and index 45 years of Hearst’s video archives—a monumental effort made possible by our multimodal AI, MXT-1.5. Without this technology, the task would have taken over a century to complete manually. Today, 91,000 hours and counting have been digitized and made accessible to Hearst’s personnel across 37 television and radio stations nationwide, safeguarding and enabling the repurposing of decades of history for generations to come.

When we started working with Hearst, we were still called Newsbridge. Hearing our former name during the awards ceremony was a reminder of our shared mission to build bridges across time. Stories connect us all, preserving the past, enriching the present, and inspiring the future.
