How WRC Promoter Repurposes 40 Years of Rally Archive Content with Moments Lab

See how WRC Promoter uses Moments Lab's AI to find and repurpose decades of archive footage, streamline production, and create video content that goes viral.

Hear from the WRC Promoter team about how Moments Lab's AI-powered solutions centralized a 40-year archive, provide seamless remote video discovery, and enable them to reach 100 million views.

Centralizing a 40-year archive

The FIA World Rally Championship is one of motorsport's most storied competitions, with a global TV audience of 1.3 billion and a content archive spanning more than four decades. For WRC Promoter, the organization responsible for the commercial and media operations of the championship, managing, accessing, and distributing that vast library had long been a fragmented and time-consuming challenge.

Footage was scattered across different systems, accessible to different people at different times, and often simply gone after a matter of weeks. Keeping distributed teams aligned on the same content, especially during fast-moving rally weekends, added further complexity. Since adopting Moments Lab, the entire archive is centralized, indexed, and permanently accessible to both internal teams and partners.

“Indexing has helped us a lot with bringing the entire archive online and making it accessible,” explains Florian Haid, content manager at WRC Promoter. “This is super important when we're not all together and we really need to see and make sure that we're all aligned on the same content,” adds social media manager Pádraig Foran. Haid continues, “Our live broadcast uses these moments and these videos, especially a lot in the preparation for the storytelling that we try to achieve throughout the weekend.”

"We now really have everything in a central place, and to have that is amazing…It's almost as if we take it for granted now, so it kind of feels hard to imagine what it was like before."

- Pádraig Foran, Social Media Manager

Repurposing Archives with AI-Powered Video Search and Discovery

Powered by Moments Lab's multimodal AI, MXT-2, the WRC team can now instantly surface iconic moments featuring legendary drivers like Michèle Mouton and Colin McRae using facial recognition—content that previously would have taken significant time to locate. This has unlocked entirely new content formats, including "On This Day" social edits celebrating historic WRC milestones, and the ability to revisit older footage and re-edit it for today's formats and platforms.

"Facial recognition is one of the most powerful tools that we use on a regular basis. It helps us to find iconic moments from drivers that have made history in the WRC."

- Florian Haid, Content Manager

The team has also been an early adopter of Moments Lab's Discovery Agent, a conversational AI feature that allows users to search and interact with their media library through natural language prompts, acting as a digital content manager on demand.

"The Discovery Agent enables us to finally talk to the platform and get instant feedback, rather than just sticking to a normal text-based search."

- Florian Haid, Content Manager

From Archive Footage to 100 Million Views

The impact is measurable. A four-year-old clip, retrieved quickly using Moments Lab, generated over 100 million views across all social platforms.

Remote collaboration during rally weekends has also been transformed. Social media agencies can submit clips directly into Moments Lab, where the WRC Promoter team reviews, approves, and publishes content without needing to be in the same location.

The Road Ahead: 100% Remote Production by 2027

Looking ahead, WRC Promoter plans to produce 100% of rallies remotely by 2027, reducing the championship's carbon footprint while raising production quality and delivering a better experience for fans, broadcasters, and partners. "We're really excited for what the future brings with Moments Lab,” concludes Haid.
